When I was asked to teach “Beer 101” at TJU last July, I would not have thought that the Phillies would possibly be playing in the World Series the very night of the class in late October.
Well, to my surprise the whole class showed up anyway – some in Phillies garb – and seemed to really enjoy learning something about the ingredients, flavors and styles of beer. Thanks to Matt at the Beer Yard, I came equipped with Allagash White, Founders Harvest, Sly Fox Rare VOS and Victory Storm King to reward their palates.
From the explanations of IBUs, gravity and the origins of styles to the tastings and then the trivia quiz… Not one person left until the last sip of Storm King was gone… Even though the Phils were already playing in NY by then.
The people and facilities were great, I hope to be invited back to teach a graduate course! Superbowl this time?
