Yards Beer, Coffee, Cheese and Chocolate at Milkboy

Beer, Cheese, Chocolate and Coffee

Beer, Cheese, Chocolate and Coffee at Milkboy

Yards Saison with Betty’s Buttons “Aw Snap!” milk chocolate? How about Counter Culture Michicha Sidama Ethiopia coffee mixed IN Yards George Washington Porter? Then there was the tasty Yards Brawler “Pugilist style Ale” with aged smoked Gouda cheese.

These were just some of the great tastes and beer pairings at Milkboy Coffee in Ardmore this Thursday, June 10th. Franklin Winslow, brewer of Yards Brewery brought four of their wonderful ales (including their snappy British style IPA), Liz Begosh of Betty’s Buttons brought samples of their scratch made chocolate fudge including”Bomb Diggity” – a dark chocolate fudge with Cacoa nibs. Along with the Ethiopian coffee, Counter Culture donated Cenaproc French Roast to the mix, with three cheeses from Julius Silvert.

Great Taste at Milkboy

Franklin from Yards shares in Milkboy's great taste in music (Scot Sax) and beer for happy patrons at Milkboy at the BeerAppreciation event

The attendees enjoyed the food and beer, and found themselves experimenting with the pairings – can beer and coffee go together? Of course – they both start with savory roasted foodstuffs. And cheese and beer – pairing creamy and spicy cheeses with beer’s wide flavor profile and “scrubbing bubbles” is always a favorite. Beer and chocolate might be new for some, but most beer appreciators have heard of “chocolate stout” already. It’s more than worth a try putting these great flavors together, and a great pairing for a party. Check out Philly’s own Betty’s Buttons for some amazing artisan fudge flavors – “dark chocolate with cinnamon and chipotle”? YES!

Thanks to Milkboy owner Tommy, store manager Lisa, Joanne and all the members of the extended Milkboy family that joined in the fun. Just goes to show you that there can be beer appreciation at a coffee shop – and lots to learn about how great flavors together can be even better than they are alone.
